Our Story

Hadden Farm has been owned by Neil and Darcy Shedden since 1979 and has operated as a horse spelling agistment property since those early days. Originally purchased as two adjacent 600acre properties, the land spreads across creek flats, grassy hillsides and bushy/treed areas. Apart from the individual yards, all paddocks have been designed to incorporate a section of each of these types of terrain to allow the horses to feel they have returned to native country. Paddocks are fertilized with natural chicken manure, rather than chemicals, to increase its ability to grow superior grasses. We also run a herd of commercial cattle, which are grazed through the paddocks on a rotational basis to reduce weeds naturally.

Darcy Shedden, in the initial 30 odd years of operation, was intimately involved in the running of the property…. her involvement in the racing industry encouraging many of Sydney's racing fraternity to spell and agist their horses at the farm. In more recent years, the farm and its current staff members, Darcy's daughter Bree and the Groger family (please see OUR STAFF for details) concentrate more on showhorses, hacks and retired horses. We are also proud that the RSPCA uses Hadden Farm to rehabilitate many of the horses they take under their wing and, in recent times, we also now host the Mounted Police Horses when they have a spell.

The farm is now focused on its remaining 700 acres, but still retains the original feelings of space and a wonderful, relaxing environment for the horses that stay with us.
